Technology Sucks
With a bit of irony you could even liken technology to the Political Classes of the World. Full of promises, but actual delivery on promises leaves us short changed.
Yes, good software eliminates human error. In the Fenestration Industry we have order processing for starters, the glass calculations and the cutting sheets/schedules, all have lifted the industry to another level of efficiency. Then the downside is that just as with our politicians, in thinking that uttering what you want to hear is the same as communicating. Communication works when all parts of the chain not only get to listen but allow themselves to hear what others are saying. A perfect 'production/cutting' sheet is one thing but when the interface with the machinery or glass processing is reliant on someone NOT having 'fat fingers' or even using 'sneaker net' then when errors creep in they become magnified. This is then compounded because we have been conditioned to 'trust' and as a consequence have removed self reliance and resilience - this also gets stretched to be called budgetary expedience. Or in reality a proper conversation is not happening. Just half the job done.
In Sales parlance the phrase 'telling is not selling' is used because it defines how to cause a satisfactory outcome. You can only fulfil a need if you get to 'hear', really hear, what the need is as a starting point.
As far and as fast as we have evolved perfection is still a long way off. Device operating systems are not on good terms with one and other. Communications at best are a one way street. One side makes a noise wanting the other to hear, but just like your politician the real hearing is one way. Missed opportunities to advance. The major player in operating systems treats its users as testers - chuck something out to the consumer that looks like a good idea and when it goes wrong roll out an update overnight on a Thursday. They of course get away with it because the consumer is only permitted 'use' and never has ownership of the operating system. If only the so-called ‘IT Industry’ put the same effort in as they do to contriving 'clickbait' in creating joined up communications there is a feeling we would all be well ahead.
The Fenestration Industry at times gets sucked into this attitude by treating Customers and Consumers as recipients of output, listeners and never reciprocating by 'hearing' them until things don't go as planned. Its then for most too late. The Political Class in not hearing is not 'getting it' either, they miss the opportunity to grow the economy first to fund their aspirations, sort of 'cart before the horse' syndrome. Programmed decline everywhere.
How often does the man at the top of an organisation place themselves in a position to 'hear' what those that pay their wages are saying?
Promat UK: "SYSTEMGLAS®Stratum responds to the growing demand for walk-on glass floors, not only in commercial and public buildings, but increasingly within high-end residential properties. The system offers the scope to integrate a glass floor into a design where passive fire protection measures are needed, both to enable building occupiers to escape safely and to prevent major damage to assets in the event of a fire." said Segment Manager - Glass, Cath McLean.
Carl F Groupco: "Fabricators and installers can now offer customers increased confidence of the acoustic performance of their products and Building Regulation compliance by fitting the RW Simon acoustic vent range. The intelligently designed acoustic vents can be installed to any window system and are available with a PVC-U or aluminium external canopy which can be dual colour matched for improved product aesthetics." said Managing Director John Crittenden.
Granada Glazing: "Where double glazing cannot be installed due to planning regulations, secondary glazing is often the preferred solution. It offers a cost-effective and efficient solution in reducing external noise by up to 80% and improving thermal insulation by up to 65%," says Commercial Sales Manager Robert Cottam.
Senior Architectural Systems: "We don't want our customers to have to worry about Part L compliance. That's why we have been working hard to develop and refine our PURe® system and a number of our most popular aluminium fenestration solutions to ensure that when the new targets come into effect, it's business as usual. Now is not the time to take risks, now is the time to lean on an established manufacturer like Senior and a proven system like PURe® to ensure that projects are kept on track and on budget." Said James Keeling-Heane sales director.
Leka Systems: "The size and scale of the replacement roof was exacting and we worked closely with the builder to ensure everything ran smoothly. The new Leka roof has transformed Torr Home's conservatory. It is now is a year-round habitable room where residents can enjoy the impressive views at a constant, ambient temperature." Tom Henwood of Boringdon Plastics said.
Dekko "Following the success of our Infinity range of uPVC windows, we've improved our offering to manufacture a window with a fully seamless weld. It's a world first from Dekko, and we would not have been able to make it happen without the Graf Synergy machine". Sales Director Kurt Greatrex comments.
