Observations

Love and emotion (or devotion?)

This week we have un-connected and recurring threads which when they turn up in the same place contribute to a single train of thought going forward.

Roy Frost, Deceuninck, reaffirms something every marketeer knows (then forgets). In the final analysis any offering achieves more value when it looks and acts the part as opposed to just fulfilling an objective. A VW Polo after all fulfils the same objective as a Lamborghini Huracán, it comes from the same company, with same designers and same management, yet the price difference!

Roy's illustration of Apple is more than just a good example. Apple's sales value outstrip its main competitor by a huge amount, while shifting less boxes. The irony of course, at the core of these major competitors, is the same operating system, similar component suppliers and so on, all fulfilling the same function. Yes the heart knows best.

However, the main story here is Deceuninick's launch program of new stunners.

The head turner for 2015 was and still for now is Apeer's 'Lumi', not just for the clean modern looks but it is also one of the few windows that permit a warm-edge IGU to work not just in simulation but in practice providing a promised solid benefit to the consumer – no sleight of hand here.

This also segways nicely into the growing awareness, need and desire for ' Passive House' technology both from specifiers and consumers. Who will capture and exploit this potential in the UK?

The web is also growing into the tool as intended as illustrated by Solidor's sales/order cloud facility, then on to " "'s efficiency gains from effective tracking.

Not to be sidelined the GGF reminds us there is still time to join them on the UK Pavilion and promote your company at this year’s major trade show in March at 'Fensterbau Frontale 2016'. Which brings us back to love and emotion ruling the roost, a natural result of having a devotion and passion for what you do.

What’s the most important: energy, weather performance, security, long life, appearance? They’re all important. Homeowners want them all, and with the very best windows they can have them all.

But some features appeal more to the head than the heart, and for most people it’s what a product looks like that gets hearts beating faster and juices flowing.

Most of us lust with our eyes and buy with our heart. When our eyes and heart are not engaged, we quibble about price and other details. But when our eyes and hearts are fully engaged, we want it now, soonest. We can’t wait to spend what it takes to get our hands on what we fall in love with.

Late last year, The Window Company (Contracts) changed banks from one of the ‘big four’ to the much less well known Swedish firm Handelsbanken.
