Observations

Right around the corner

It's that time of the year once more in the Fenestration Industry, one side is tidying their desks for a quick escape, while those that cause the industry are gearing up to take things to the next level.

In a couple of days the winter solstice will be out of the way, traditionally a period of reflection and the sense of renewal as the light returns.

For those that don't escape the gloom to warmer climes they have been handed more than 10 days to take stock and make plans. 10 days that Mr & Mrs Consumer are relaxed, responsive and looking forward. It’s a gift to those in sales, the equivalent of 5 weekends of sales all on the bounce.

By all accounts the year for the Fenestration Industry as a whole has been extremely good, healthy turnover and very profitable. Good solid foundations going forward.

To back this up there are signs of real green shoots, as at long last there has been movement to take the window to the next level, not in the cosmetic periphery way, but in a tangible better performance way. Of course I am reflecting on the award winning Apeer Lumi window. It gives the appearance that it intends to do a proper job, with real insulation, a system that inherently releases the full capabilities of a warm edge IGU. A by-product of this engineering, as with all good engineering, is it looks the part, clean effective and modern.

That of course is not the end of it, our friends over at Roof-Maker, always at the leading edge when it comes to giving the consumer real performance, have a similar take of great engineering with their new Thermafold door system.

It looks like after a couple of generations of regurgitating the tried, tested in the hope of keeping pace with the requirements of modern life, the Fenestration Industry is about to move forward and invigorate itself.
