Keeping you safe

The Internet has become one of those indispensable tools. Great for information, fabulous for instant communications and a priority for business generation, so a must have for everyone. To that you have to add the phrase net-neutrality or from another 'do no evil' and so on suggesting it's a cuddly place to be.

Just as with all things seemingly open to all it is also open to abuse and exploits by the abusers and unscrupulous, even then that is not as it seems. The term hacker comes to mind and the hidden Russian Mafia as the only ones to fear and safe guard against. For cuddly read dangerous.

Every time you or someone on your network heads to the Internet they are exploited for their personal information, the information of their co-workers and the companies they are associated with, just by being there.

You think, just because you are aware of the dangers and take precautions, you are safe. In the UK having a Company gives rise to your basic personal details being displayed at Companies House. That information is open to perusal for everyone in the world via the Internet. That’s just a name and address, so no longer personal, does it matter!

In part that's true, it's just one salami slice, and then comes the power of the Internet. Make a purchase on the Internet and for security reasons the vendor requests your date of birth - why, what’s secure about that.

If you have contact by email with someone who uses social media, it means your email address is now in their contacts list. Social media sites generate their volumes by exploiting the contact lists of their participants. In fact just to visit a web site with a 'like button' and the third party site that it hails from downloads all it can gather from your machine - your details, your contacts and so on. ...[more]
